PURPOSE OF POSITION :

An Accounting Clerk at Catholic Charities :

Performs accounting work in accordance with well-defined procedures under close supervision and guidance, prepares regular entry detail for accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts and / or donations.

  • Accounts Payable including :
  • Processes accounts payable on a computerized system.
  • Verifies proper authorization, coding and documentation of invoices / check requests.
  • Accurately prepares manual checks as required.
  • Maintains appropriate records and filing system, keeping them up-to-date and accurate.
  • Answers vendor inquiries.
  • Maintains accounts payable aging.
  • Prepares 1099's at year-end.
  • Accounts Receivable / Cash Receipts including :
  • Keeps records of all cash transactions and enters data to proper records.
  • Receives incoming cash from customers, donors, agency employees, or by mail.
  • Examines and counts money and prepares receipts as required.
  • Prepares bank deposits.
  • Records revenues against billings using computerized system.
  • Prepares journal entries to record each deposit.
  • Prepares account reconciliations.
  • Assists in annual audit preparation and completion.
  • Assists in the filing and review of insurance claims and replacement reserve requests.
  • Other administrative functions as required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of basic accounting practices and procedures.
  • Ability to use business and accounting computer system to enter financial data, create and generate reports.
  • Detail oriented, organized, flexible and willing to shift priorities as needed.
  • Team oriented and ability to work cohesively with others.
  • Knowledge of the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base
  • EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

    Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from accredited two-year college or technical school; preferably in business, accounting, or related field; and six months to one year office experience required; or equivalent combination of education & experience.

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS :

    Salary : $19.00-$21.00 / hour

    Training : We provide a robust training curriculum that will support our employees throughout their career. Training provided within the first year of employment includes : De-escalation & Safety; Mental Health First Aid; Substance Abuse & Mental Health; Human Trafficking; Trauma Informed Care; and many more.

  • Shift is Full Time
  • Extensive Paid Time Off (4 weeks accrual for new employees - increasing based on tenure) promoting work life balance.
  • 15 Paid Holidays annually (shelters are 24 / 7, so if a holiday is worked, holiday pay is in included.)
  • 403b Retirement Plan with Agency contribution of 4% & match up to 2% of annual compensation.
