Summary

SAILS Washington employs appropriate individuals who ensure a high standard of quality and safety in the delivery of Residential Services and who coordinate the provision of services consistent with SAILS Washingtons philosophy of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Direct Support Professional :

Provides support to program participants that meets their needs, provides opportunities for community integration, including swimming, and creates a nurturing, safe, and healthful living environment.

Must be familiar with the Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration.

Provides each participant with an array of instruction and support services, as described in the participants Individual Instruction and Support Plan (IISP).

Provides support and or supervision as outlined in the clients Quarterly Treatment Plan and Positive Behavior Support Plan.

Be aware of CP Clients location at all times and ensure CP Clients do not leave the program without properly trained staff or valid Chaperone Agreement unless exercising an approved Reduction in Supervision plan.

Documents all unusual or unsafe behavior, refusal / failure to follow treatment guidelines, or refusal to attend therapy in an Incident Report and notify supervisors per policy.

Act as a positive role model and maintain professional boundaries at all times.

Call 911 and notify program supervisors immediately if a CP Client leaves supervision.

Stay awake at all times and make visual checks on each resident every half-hour when they are not within line-of-sight supervision in the home.

Keep CP Clients in their line-of-sight at all times in the home unless they are alone in their bedroom or bathroom.

Never leave two CP Clients alone without line-of-sight supervision.

Ensure CP Clients are not entering another clients bedroom at any time. If a CP Client is another client's bedroom, provide physical supervision until they leave and complete an Incident Report.

Check any alarm equipment in use to track movement on every shift. Notify a supervisor immediately of any faulty equipment and complete an Incident Report.

Review and sign Positive Behavior Support Plan monthly.

Follow all recommendations made by Therapists and approved by Program Directors / Managers.

Always maintain physical supervision (arms length) in the community unless the therapist has authorized line-of-sight supervision due to the nature of the outing. Always be prepared to resume physical supervision if necessary due to a safety concern.

Never supervise more than 2 CP Clients at one time in the community without approval from a Program Manager / Director.

Avoid crowded areas where minors or vulnerable persons congregate when working with CP Clients that have a history of offending behavior unless approved in writing by their therapist.

Make sure CP Clients use a single occupancy restroom in the community. If a single occupancy restroom is not available, wait until the restroom is cleared of all children and stay in the restroom until the CP Client is finished. Encourage CP Clients to use a stall rather than urinals. Maintain supervision at all times.

Ensures that the daily needs of the participants are met, including personal hygiene, food preparation, house cleaning, shopping, and monitoring of health needs, including supervision of medication.

Assists participants with regularly accessing the community to take part in a variety of outings of the participants choosing. This may require transporting participants or arranging for transportation.

Ensures that participants are treated with dignity and consideration at all times. Promotes and safeguards each participants ability to make decisions and to freely exercise his or her rights.

Interacts with participants, provides informal counseling and problem-solves with participants.

Attends staff meetings as required by the House Manager or the Site Supervisor and / or Administrator.

Attends training offered / required by the agency, DDA, and other parties.

Takes part in the development and implementation of the IISP for each participant with whom they work.

Will become Nurse Assistant Registered (NAR) at employees own expense initially and annually.

Must enroll and complete Nurse Delegation study course and take the test within 30 days of employment.

Provides necessary support and supervision of participants.

Maintains professional working relationships with other services providers, the participants parents / relatives / guardians and other agency staff. Responsible for timely completion of all documentation, including, but not limited to, the medication log, shift notes, progress notes, data sheets, incident reports, and client financial records.

Performs other duties as assigned by the House Manager or the Site Supervisor and / or the Administrator.

Must have a valid drivers license and car and must be willing to transport clients in own vehicle.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

Must be 18 years of age with High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.

Must have a fingerprint and criminal clearance prior to starting.

Licensing Requirements :

Must pass a Washington State background check

Must have proper credentials per WAC to work in the capacity of a DSP

WA Driver License and WA Auto Insurance

Must be able to obtain an NAR within 90 days of hire.

First Aid / CPR Certified (within 120 days of employment, training can be provided)

Blood Borne Pathogen (within 120 days of employment, training can be provided)

Need to obtain CPI Blue Card

Ongoing Eligibility Qualifications :

Complete and pass the background check screening upon hire and every two years thereafter, or as requested.

Maintain active NAR, CPR / First Aid, Nurse Delegation and other required certifications.

Complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually.
