About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Hours per Shift : Guaranteed 36 hours per week

Experience : Minimum 3 years of PICU experience

License : Active RN License Required

Certifications : BLS, PALS

Must-Have : Minimum 2 years of PICU experience; familiarity with medfusion pumps

Description :

Client Clinical Team will pre-screen all candidates.

No first-time travelers.

Unit has 8 beds with an average census of 2.

Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1 to 2.

EMR system used is Cerner.

Charge Nurse role is rarely present.

No Nurse Aides available on the unit.

Weekend requirement is every other weekend.

Two holidays out of three are required.

Scrub color is navy blue.

Telemetry monitoring via Spacelab tele monitors; nurses must read their own strips.

Ventilator support is provided.

Pediatric Hospitalist and Intensivist are in-house 24 / 7.

Respiratory Therapy is available 24 / 7 for ventilators, CPAP, RAM cannula, BiPAP, and HFNC.

Pharmacy services are available 24 / 7.

If census is low and scheduled, staff may be asked to be on standby.

Shifts are 7a and 7p.

Floating may be required to general pediatrics and burn unit for non-burn care of pediatric patients.

Floating may also include voluntary NICU assignments.

Floor-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in PICU, 1 shift in pediatrics, and 1 shift in the burn unit.

Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, suicide attempts, overdoses, poisoning, and diabetic ketoacidosis.

Common titratable and / or set drips include insulin, sedative agents, and heparin, with rare use of vasopressin, norepinephrine, and epinephrine.

Electrolyte replacements are frequently administered.

Cancellation policy allows the hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts during the assignment.

Charting system used is Cerner.
