Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligible applicants must meet VHA policy requirements and submit the application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years). Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify you must meet basic requirements and any additional requirements. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements
- United States citizenship (non‑citizens only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited).
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a VA‑approved school.
- Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. jurisdiction.
- Completed residency training approved by the VA for board certification.
- Residency may be approved by ACGME, AOA, or other residency with minimum five years U.S. practice as per local committee.
- Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) may be appointed if in an accredited residency; PRPs must hold a full license and may be appointed intermittently or fee‑based only.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical ability to perform examinations, formulate diagnoses, and perform required patient care activities.

Duties
Interpret imaging studies including X‑rays, ultrasound, CT, MRI, fluoroscopic exams, and other modalities.Participate in fluoroscopic examinations and other patient care services.Provide quality assurance and performance improvement oversight of technical quality.Educate staff and trainees; serve on committees and other activities supporting clinical operations.Coordinate care with technical and nursing staff and occasionally with external providers.Review exam requests for appropriateness, prescribe exam protocols, and modify as needed.Provide oversight of medication administration relevant to imaging (e.g., contrast) and ensure radiation / MRI safety.Participate in quality assurance activities such as peer review, protocol review, and performance improvement.Interpret imaging exams with clinical correlation, generate reports with findings, discussions, differential diagnoses, recommendations, and impressions.Provide timely reports to support patient care.Consult with providers on imaging selection and results review.Participate in conferences such as Tumor Board.Interact with patients for history, physical exam, education, informed consent, documentation in CPRS, and orders.Coordinate patient care and discuss evaluation, management, and follow‑up.Participate in imaging and general medical staff meetings and committees.Support academic affiliations (technologists, radiology assistants, medical students, residents).Research encouraged; supported by VA.Total Rewards
