First-line supervisor responsible for assigning and coordinating all work on the production line(s). Organizes material flows and inventory to reach production targets. Supervises, trains, and is responsible for the work safety of a team of production staff. Implements production schedules, methods, and processes. Identifies problems and proposes solutions and / or improvements of the production process. Allocates manpower and equipment for production purposes.
The Repair Supervisor (Paint and Blast) will manage, and coordinate employees engaged in railcar (tank, hopper, and other freight cars) repair, cleaning, coating and paint activities to ensure targeted efficiency. The Repair Supervisor will establish clear goals and objectives and develop / implement operational plans using a systematic approach to continuous improvement. They will be a subject expert in the department(s) they are leading. Repair Supervisors may be assigned to Cleaning Rack Operations, Valve, Mechanical, Paint and Blast and report into the Area Manager or Repair Manager of the operation.
Primary responsibilities and / or essential functions include, but are not limited to :
SKILLS / SPECIFICATIONS
- Ensures railcar maintenance (repair, cleaning, coating / paint) activities meet AAR requirements, safety and quality standards, customer demands, and production targets.
- Implements and sustains visual management process. This includes the Safety, Quality, Delivery visuals, 5S department organization and maintenance of the production scheduling board.
- Provides leadership and coaching to Repair Supervisors responsible for railcar repair, cleaning, paint, inspection and quality assurance.
- Oversees the plant operations and scheduling to ensure company initiatives, procedures, processes, and programs are implemented and followed by all plant personnel.
- Coordinates with the Plant Manager to ensure that plant operates within budget and achieves targeted revenue goals.
- Reviews and assesses the plant operation, workload, scheduled car flow and WIP. Ensures that location assets (e.g., people, processes, materials, measures, equipment, and conditions) are in place to meet efficiencies, productivity, and company goals.
- Defines and communicates the responsibilities, expectations to direct reports and other personnel.
- Meets with managers, supervisors, and department leaders to review workload, railcar status, and action steps needed to meet operational goals. Updates the lost car tracker as required.
- Enforces plant targets and goals regarding staffing, training, safety, quality, equipment, tools, materials, production and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Reviews plant operating reports, performance metrics, and other KPIs daily and / or weekly and assists Plant Manager in establishing action plans or adjustments to address / correct any deficiencies.
- Reviews TRIP production reports to monitor railcar maintenance service efficiencies, utilization, through-put and cycle times to achieve operational goals.
- Evaluates performance of supervision, providing regular feedback and coaching on objectives, performance, and improvements needed.
- Establishes strong relationships with customers and resolves customer inquiries and problems.
- Ability to inspect, identify, and verify that plant operations and processes are implemented, performed, and completed in compliance with industry, company, and customer requirements.
- Ability to effectively manage time and multiple projects within a fast-paced environment.
- Other duties and projects as assigned by the Plant Manager.
EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree preferred. High School diploma or equivalent required.Minimum of 2 years' experience of progressively increasing responsibility in production management.2+ years as a production leader in a manufacturing environment. Railcar Repair industry experience strongly preferred.Track record making improvements in operations excellence (safety, quality, productivity, customer satisfaction, profitable growth) in a challenging industrial environment.OTHER SKILLS / ABILITIES REQUIRED
Leadership capability to develop and execute a strategy for the operation, align team leads / employees to drive implementation to achieve continuous improvement.Ability to listen to and take the actions required to meet the vision and strategy for plant operations.Ability to effectively communicate across all levels and functions to create alignment for plant initiatives.Capability to develop teams to implement strategic initiatives and continuous improvement.High integrity and competency which fosters the highest level within the operation.Ability to manage diverse teams to ensure work processes and operations meet or exceed all requirements and business goals.Proficiency in MS Office applications with the ability to learn proprietary database systems.Industry knowledge of AAR and FRA rules, and Tank Car Maintenance Regulations; Knowledge of current regulatory requirements (e.g., AAR MSRP, M-1002, Section C, Part III, HM201); Knowledge of FRA regulations, preferred.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, work boots and the ability to wear a respirator.The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as crawling, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials for more than 50% of the workday.Working around heavy moving equipment.Work outdoors in all weather conditions.Work in high places and confined areas.Use of respirator as required.The ability to sustain mental and visual attention to details for sustained periods of time.WORK SITE ENVIRONMENT
Always comply with all safety requirements and lead by example regarding safety.Primary work environment subject to extreme heat or cold for considerable amounts of time.
