Department Information

After more than four years of planning and groundwork, the ambitious Tech Square Phase 3 (TS3) initiative is well underway. With two impressive towers at its core connected by a shared elevator, the TS3 project, slated to finish in 2026, encompasses 416,500 square feet and includes a large outdoor plaza for street-level retail.

The building will feature two striking structures : the 14-story Scheller Tower and the 18-story George Tower, respectively named after generous benefactors Ernest "Ernie" Scheller Jr. (IM 1952, HON Ph.D. 2013) and Bill William W. "Bill" George (IE 1964, HON Ph.D. 2008) and his wife Penny.

Job Summary

Perform installation and maintenance of components used in campus heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related equipment including chilled water, refrigeration, air compressor, gas heater, air drier, fume hoods, and pumps. Regularly provide work direction to lower level mechanics and maintenance personnel. This position will interact with on a consistent basis with : maintenance supervision and staff, building managers and vendors. This position typically will advise and counsel : lower level mechanics and maintenance workers. This position will supervise : NA

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Install, repair, replace, operate, maintain, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing component used in HVAC.

Job Duty 2 -

Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.

Job Duty 3 -

Troubleshoot pneumatic, electrical, and digital controls.

Job Duty 4 -

May require purchase and accounting for HVAC related parts and materials.

Job Duty 5 -

May require working with specialized computer applications.

Job Duty 6 -

Provide work direction to mechanics and maintenance personnel related to HVAC system installation and maintenance

Job Duty 7 -

Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Other Required Qualifications

Universal CFC Refrigerant Recovery License Position may require working around or on rotating machinery, live electrical circuits, hazardous materials, high-pressure liquids and gas, and hot surfaces. Position may require lifting objects up to 75 pounds, and working in confined spaces, noisy environments, and elevated locations, either inside or outside of a building. May require extensive after hours work or call-backs. Job may require wearing a full-face respirator.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

This job requires intermediate level (journeyman / master) knowledge and skills for installing and maintaining compressors, fans, bearings, belts, dampers, motors, starters, controls, 208, 200, and 460 service, 24 volt-DC service, coils and piping. Position requires the ability to read prints, drawings, and schematics via paper copies and computerized software systems. In addition, the job requires ability to operate machine tools, motor vehicles (may include forklift), hand / power tools, and hydraulic / pneumatic equipment. The position requires the ability to troubleshoot and to sequence tasks for specific assignments.
