A $5,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or re-employment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.

• $1,250 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
• $1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of "Meets Expectations".
• $2,000 will be awarded upon completion of the employee's one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of "Meets Expectations".

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse with experience working in an outpatient or inpatient behavioral health setting for our Adult Outpatient Services program.

Minimum Requirements :

MINIMUMS : Requires current and valid licensure as a Registered Nurse by the State of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) and 2 or more years Registered Nurse experience to be specified by the hiring department. Current CPR certification. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.

Special Requirements : All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies. This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, safety footwear, hard hats, safety eyewear, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employees supervisor based on position assignments.

Preferences :

Three (3) or more years of nursing experience providing direct patient care to adults with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders in a behavioral health setting.

Three (3) or more years of nursing experience administering medications to individuals in a psychiatric setting and monitoring for adverse reactions.

One (1) or more years of experience documenting nursing services in an electronic health record.

One (1) or more years of experience monitoring individuals for symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal during medical detoxification.

Experience with excellent oral, written, and telephone communication skills.

Experience with proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office applications.
