As a Transportation Underwriter , you'll help fulfill Central's promise to our customers with effective management of your assigned territory through building strong relationships with agents, writing a profitable book of business, and providing top-notch service.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

• Fosters a culture within their team where people are encouraged to share their opinions and contribute to discussions in a respectful manner, approach disagreement non-defensively with inquisitiveness, and use contradictory opinions as a basis for constructive, productive conversations and is open to changing their perspective and plans based on others' input
• Provides input and data to help drive and implement strategic underwriting initiatives
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with agents, traveling as needed for agency visits
• Communicates effectively, providing prompt and professional service
• Develops and maintains strong internal relationships within the underwriting team and with other business units such as loss control, customer service, claims, and marketing
• Selects profitable new business through analysis of the risks presented, coverage requested, and losses incurred
• Classifies and prices risks appropriately using underwriting judgement and analytical tools and resources
• Manages and underwrites assigned book of business to achieve profitability and meet financial objectives
• Maintains appropriate underwriting file documentation
• Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education and development
