DESCRIPTION
Under supervision of the Plumbing Superintendent, the lead plumber will perform the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing work on campus utility systems. Respond to trouble calls related to utility systems including but not limited to clogs, floods, backups, leaks, natural gas, potable water, high temp hot water, chilled water, reclaimed water, sewer, storm drains, and fire protection services.
Inspect, troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance and repair campus buildings and utility plumbing systems. Inspect components to ascertain required repairs through proper troubleshooting techniques, and use of various test equipment and schematics. Coordinate services with campus customers, vendors and third-party companies and assist with questions regarding work performed. Provide expeditious, professional and courteous customer service.
QUALIFICATIONS
Proven journey level skills and experience performing modifications,
repairs, installations and alterations to utility / plumbing systems and components.
Ability to test, troubleshoot, adjust, and align equipment machinery and utility plumbingcomponents.
Ability to test and troubleshoot utility plumbing systems and correct problems when necessary.
Ability to document utility plumbing system changes and / or new installations through written information and / or prints.
Experience planning, scheduling and ordering materials for all types of plumbing jobs.
Ability to operate all sewer and storm drain cleaning equipment.
Proficiency in the use of hand tools, silver brazing, welding and soft soldering methods, and other tools of the trade.
Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety equipment.
Skill in reading, interpreting and understanding blueprints, diagrams and other technical information to perform needed installations, modifications and repairs.
Knowledge of building codes, rules and regulations and ability to apply departmental and UCSD policies and procedures as related to the position.
Must be able to work in confined spaces and physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.
Effectively operate personal computers and mobile devices using a variety of software applications including but not limited to MS Word, Outlook, Excel, online timekeeping systems, Internet browsers and computerized work management systems such as Maximo.
Ability to set priorities and workloads with minimal supervision, and plan work effectively in the field with customers and without direct supervision.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivation, adaptability, tactfulness and decisiveness.
Establish and maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with members of the department and campus community. Practice, foster and support the UC San Diego Principles of Community.
Effectively work with campus customers and co-workers to accomplish work with a high level of quality and efficiency.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies / procedures, and / or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
Must work flexible shifts to manage a 7-day, 24-hour maintenance and surveillance program.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range : $113,796 - $113,796 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent : $54.50 - $54.50
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
