The department utilizes the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST). The written test consists of Arithmetic, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Incident Report Writing. Upon passing the written test, you will be eligible to participate in the physical agility test that immediately follows the written test. The physical agility test is a pass / fail for each section. If you fail any section of the test, you will not be allowed to continue. The physical agility test consists of the following : Vertical Jump Test Standard for Passing = 15.5 inches Sit Up Test (Curl Up) Standard for Passing = 30 repetitions 1 minute 300 Meter Run Test Standard for Passing = 66 seconds Push Up Test Standard for Passing = 25 repetitions 1 minute 1.5 Mile Run Test Standard for Passing = 15.54 minutes

Entry Level Requirements : U.S. Citizen, 21 Years of Age Valid Texas Driver's License No Convictions or Court Ordered Supervision of a class B misdemeanor in the past 10 years. No Convictions or Court Ordered Supervision for offenses above a class B Misdemeanor Ever No Convictions Involving Moral Turpitude or Family Violence Applicants must have never used LSD or any Hallucinogen. No history of illegal Drug Use in the last 5 years No DWI Or DUID Convictions within Past 10 Years Correctable vision to 20 / 20 Normal Color Vision Normal Hearing In Each Ear.
OBJECTIVE To protect the city's residents and property by providing police, fire, and emergency medical services. This position responds to emergency calls, renders aid, investigates incidents, and completes administrative and incident reports.
Organizational Relationships : 1. Reports to : Public Safety Sergeant. 2. Directs : This is a non-supervisory position. 3. Other : Has frequent contact with other public safety department employees, other public safety agencies, related agencies and organizations, schools, youth, and the general public.

Job Requirements Education and Experience : High school graduation with some college coursework; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications and Licenses Required : Basic Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Firefighter and Driver / Operator certificate from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Emergency Medical Technician certificate from the Texas Department of Health Services Valid Class B Texas driver's license Required certificates and licenses (once obtained) must be maintained throughout the course of employment.
Knowledge : Public Safety and Security : rules and regulations for the protection of people, data, and property, including the use of weapons and force. Fire Sciences and Equipment : fire suppression procedures and techniques, including incident stabilization and mitigation, safe operation of hand and mechanical tools and of large vehicles, hose and ladder operation, salvage and overhaul, fire stream development, and fire ventilation, rescue, and inspections. Emergency Medical Treatment : principles, processes, and techniques of assessing and rendering aid. Office Software : current word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database programs used by the City. Law and Government : laws, penal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and the democratic political process. Traffic Safety : basic traffic safety laws.
Skill / Ability : Goal-oriented Crisis Communication : effectively structuring questioning, answering, and listening interactions with people to determine their needs in urgent situations. Mechanical / Technical : safe operation of diverse equipment, including vehicles, computers, weapons, radios, mapping systems, copiers, fax machines, calculators, cameras, and scanners.
