Land Description Technician

Portage County Register of Deeds is hiring a full-time Land Description Technician !

What are the primary job responsibilities

• Interprets legal real estate descriptions for all real estate located in Portage County including the City of Stevens Point.
• Interprets and hand drafts maps per recorded real estate documents.
• Drafts and revises legal real estate descriptions.
• Computes and verifies legal description acreages.
• Manually transfer information from the recorded document to Ascent (Transcendent program) accurately using existing and / or computed information derived from legally recorded documents. New parcels base parcels name changes splits and certified survey maps etc.
• Compiles and organizes information and forms for assessment rolls.
• Inputs / Imports / Downloads and checks assessment values as directed by assessor.
• Prepares and balances required reports.
• Provides information statutorily required to assessor.
• Assists in answering telephone and counter inquiries from the public in a timely manner.
• Works with municipal assessors to add maintain and delete personal property accounts and values.
• Reconciles receipts to money at the end of each day. Balances all monies with Munis system records.
• Works with the public to locate County Surveyors records.
• Maintenance of subdivision restriction index.
• Maintenance of comparable sales book in Ascent.
• Determines and obtains all recorded documents from Register of Deeds records affecting real estate title.
• Works with public to search / issue vital records requests and receipt in the Portage County ERPsystem and enters into the State of Wisconsin SVRIS system.
• Updates WAMS (Department of Revenue program) with transfer information.
• Ability to manipulate the land records assessment program to provide various reports and labels as needed by business partners and the public.
• Ability and knowledge to gather and submit XML files to Department of Revenue (DOR) and other statutory electronic forms to required business partners.
• Create and balance drainage district rolls and all other special districts located in Portage County including the City of Stevens Point.
• Back up to recording desk. This includes accepting reviewing indexing and auditing documents for recording.
