The Division of Banks is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel (General Counsel). This represents an exciting opportunity to work in the dynamic field of financial services regulation and contribute in a meaningful way to achieving the mission of an accredited consumer protection agency. The General Counsel plays a critical role as the agency’s chief legal counsel, as well as a key contributor to agency-wide policy decisions as a member of the senior leadership team.
About the Division
The mission of the Division of Banks is to ensure a sound, competitive, and accessible financial services environment throughout the Commonwealth. The Division maintains public confidence in Massachusetts financial institutions through the oversight of state‑chartered banks, credit unions, and non‑bank financial service providers including the mortgage, money services businesses, sales finance, and debt collection industries that do business within the Commonwealth. The majority of the Division's employees are examiners who conduct a variety of on‑ and off‑site examinations of financial institutions under the Division's jurisdiction. Salary placement is determined by years of experience and education directly related to the position and the Human Resources Division’s recruiting guidelines.

Primary Duties
Minimum Entrance Requirements
Applicants must have at least (A) seven (7) years of full‑time or, equivalent part‑time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in a particular specialty (i.e. scientific, professional, or technical) and must possess current license and / or registration requirements established for the performance of the position, of which (B) at least three (3) years must have been in a managerial capacity.
