As a
- Surgery Technician
- , you will play a vital role in supporting our Surgeons and ensuring the highest level of patient care. The Surgery Technician is responsible for anticipating the needs of the doctor, assisting with a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and managing complex medical cases. Sophisticated diagnostic tools are frequently utilized, and the Surgery Technician is expected to prepare, assist, and support these procedures with precision and care. This role requires proficiency in laboratory testing, sample collection and processing, and monitoring patients under sedation or anesthesia—including those at higher anesthetic risk.
The Surgery Technician also serves as a key point of contact for clients—guiding them through each step of their pet's care journey. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing estimates, updating clients on patient status, facilitating discharges, maintaining accurate medical records, managing lab results, and assisting with short-term case management. The Surgery Technician is an essential liaison between the doctor and the client, supporting continuity of care for patients.
Surgical Technician Skills :
- Anesthesia induction, intubation, and monitoring of the surgical patient
- Surgical clip and prep of patient
- Sterile clip and prep of patient
- Ability to maintain sterile technique and fields
- Ability to identify surgical instruments
- Drape in patient & set up instrument table for the surgeon
- Ability to perform anesthetic blocks on patient
- ECG / EKG monitoring
- CT imaging and contrast studies
Required Skills and Qualifications :
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT / LVT / CVT) or experienced technician with a minimum of 3 years in emergency or specialty medicine (advanced anesthesia experience required, ASA 3-5)
- New graduates or current RVT students encouraged to apply
- Strong communication and client service skills
- Skilled in proper animal restraint and handling
- Proficient in venipuncture and peripheral catheter placement
- Knowledgeable in medication administration via multiple routes
- Competent in anesthesia monitoring and surgical preparation
- Accurate monitoring and recording of patient vitals (TPR, SpO₂, CO₂, BP)
- Familiar with in-house laboratory diagnostics (CBC / Chem, electrolytes, UA, iStat)
- Maintains thorough and accurate medical records
- Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds and stand for extended periods
This position has mandatory on-call and holiday rotations.
Pay : $28.00 - $36.00 per hour
Expected hours : 40 per week
