Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Contract Technical Writer to support documentation initiatives across multiple business units and field locations. This position is ideal for a self-directed writer with a background in SAP-driven environments , technical content development, and cross-functional collaboration. You will work with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and operational teams to develop comprehensive documentation that supports user training, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, training manuals, system / process guides, installation instructions, and policy documents.
  • Collaborate with SMEs and project stakeholders to collect detailed information about products, systems, and workflows.
  • Interpret and document SAP-based processes , transactions, and system flows in a user-friendly format.
  • Create visual aids such as workflows, diagrams, and process maps to accompany written documentation.
  • Manage and maintain document repositories using version control and collaborative editing tools.
  • Edit and standardize documentation in line with corporate style guides and compliance requirements.
  • Support compliance and audit documentation as required.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple work sites within the U.S. to conduct interviews, observe operations, and validate documentation with local teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a technical writer in a technical, operations, or IT-related field.
  • Hands-on experience documenting processes and workflows within SAP systems (e.g., SAP ERP, SAP S / 4HANA).
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and documentation platforms (e.g., Confluence, MadCap Flare, RoboHelp).
  • Ability to simplify complex technical information for various audiences.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to remote or client work sites as needed (travel up to 25%).

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
  • Experience with federal or Department of Defense (DoD) contracting environments.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards (e.g., ISO 9001, NIST, ITAR).
  • Instructional or visual design experience is a plus.

    • Work Conditions

  • Hybrid (remote with periodic travel to Phoenix, AZ and field sites).
  • Flexible schedule with expected availability during core business hours.

  • Competitive hourly rate (commensurate with experience).
  • Contract : W2 or 1099 options available.
