All technical and clinical procedures must be performed within the scope of education and licensure. Nursing skills must be applied in the care and treatment of inmates / residents. Participation in sick call with the physician is required. Preparing a list of inmates / residents to be examined is necessary. Preparing the examining room and equipment is part of the job. Operating pill call and dispensing medications while documenting as required is essential. Communication with Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders is necessary. Examining and assessing new inmates / residents with illnesses or injuries is required. Referring inmates / residents to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facilities is necessary. Performing emergency procedures as needed and notifying Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders is required. Coordination of professional medical services provided by contract personnel is part of the role. Maintaining a good working relationship with facility staff and nursing staff is crucial. Utilizing established corporate and facility policies in decision-making is essential. Regular evaluation of medical services is necessary to prevent inappropriate use or duplication. Maintaining the confidentiality of all medical records is imperative. Assisting with the review of medical files to ensure services are documented correctly is required. Monitoring potential catastrophic illnesses closely is a key responsibility. Auditing pharmacy use for adherence to formulary, as required, is necessary. Compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, including those covering controlled substances, is essential. Observing and recording inmate / resident behavior is required. Inspecting the medical unit for potential contraband and ensuring secure storage is part of the job. Providing health counseling and education on an individual or group basis is necessary. Assisting to prepare and maintain various standard records, reports, and logs is part of the position. Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical documents is required. Reviewing, processing, and responding to lawsuits and attending court hearings when necessary is essential. Evaluating and recommending physical safety requirements to ensure a safe working environment is necessary. Facilitating accreditation of the medical program by providing efficient and appropriate medical services is part of the job. Preparing and disseminating safety and accident reports as required is essential. Taking appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies is necessary. Escorting or coordinating the movement of inmates / residents for medical treatment is required. Performing searches of people and objects capable of concealing contraband is part of the role. Engaging in functions in confined areas and ensuring security is necessary. Taking appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations is required. Performing rescue functions at emergencies, including administering basic emergency medical aid, is a responsibility.
