Job Summary

Works on training programs and needs assessments that are of moderate scope and complexity. Uses professional training concepts in the completion of assignments. Applies organization policies, procedures and programs to address training needs among various functions and departments. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions.

The LOOP is a centralized "one-stop" delivery system that provides training and tailored assistance to projects funded by the California Tobacco Prevention Program (CTPP) including regional projects, statewide coordinating centers, Local Lead Agencies, and community grantees. Additionally, The LOOP provides training and tailored assistance to "non-traditional partners," which are generally agencies not focused on tobacco control but serving populations disproportionately burdened by tobacco. By connecting, communicating, and collaborating with these projects, The LOOP supports them as they strengthen their capacity to serve all in their tobacco control and tobacco prevention work. Additionally, The LOOP will design and implement an infrastructure ("network") to facilitate the coordination, the exchange of resources, and the provision of mutual support within the network of CTPP-funded projects. The LOOP team includes subject matter experts with specialized knowledge covering a range of topics related to tobacco control / prevention and cessation topics. The LOOP team delivers webinars, conducts in-person and virtual trainings, and provides other tailored assistance that are generally responsive to a project's request for help in implementing more effective local tobacco control policies and initiatives, reaching and working with non-traditional partners serving California's populations disproportionately affected by tobacco use, and exploring if there might be any potential unintended consequences that could sustain tobacco-related disparities. The LOOP recognizes the importance of community engagement in developing, implementing and enforcing tobacco control policies, and initiatives that are inclusive of, and sensitive to California's diverse populations disproportionately burdened by tobacco.

The employee's subject matter expertise and responsibilities :

  • The Subject Matter Trainer will have expertise in a variety of tobacco control issues, have a strong understanding of tobacco-related disparities, have experience and comfort engaging with communities disproportionately burdened by tobacco and targeted by the tobacco industry, and recognize the importance of working with non-traditional partners serving any one of California's populations disproportionately affected by tobacco use.
  • The Subject Matter Trainer will help The LOOP to conduct its required training, tailored assistance (TA), and community education activities, which are designed to support the overall work of local, regional, and statewide projects funded by CTPP. Such training, TA, and community education will be provided not only to CTCP-funded projects, but also to the identified non-traditional partners. These activities may occur in-person, over the phone, or via emails, and will be responsive to requests for information on tobacco control topics related to California's diverse populations such as, but not limited to : behavioral or mental health, diversifying and building coalitions, cultural and community competency, local and state policy development related to menthol and flavored tobacco products or retail environments located in marginalized communities, effects of tobacco use on people, minimizing exposure to secondhand smoke and tobacco waste, minimizing tobacco industry influence, achieving equity in tobacco control among diverse / priority populations, community and culturally appropriate approaches to cessation, and working with elected officials and other policymakers.
  • The Subject Matter Trainer will assist The LOOP to conduct its community education activities by helping to identify and outreach to non-traditional agencies serving any one of California's populations disproportionately burdened by tobacco.
  • The Subject Matter Trainer will contribute to The LOOP's coordination and collaboration activities, which could include networking with staff of CTPP-funded projects, as well as their tobacco control coalitions. Such activities may occur in-person, during a web-based meeting, or on a conference call.
  • The Subject Matter Trainer will contribute to The LOOP's educational materials development coordination and collaboration activities designed to support the overall work of local, regional, and statewide projects funded by CTPP.
  • The Subject Matter Trainer is expected to log all activities with tracking measures provided by The LOOP.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $63,700 - $136,100 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum of one year of related experience
  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and good presentation skills
  • Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the design and delivery of training programs
  • Working knowledge of functional area and understanding of how training may impact other areas
  • Familiar with current training programs and trends
  • Good skills in delivering training programs
  • Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of adult learning theories and education methodologies
  • Working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of delivering training programs and of other areas of human resources
