Pay Grade : Coordinator 8
This position is responsible for the daily operations, safety compliance, instructional readiness, and support of biotechnology instructional labs across multiple Wake Tech campuses. These labs include fermentation, purification, cleanrooms, and BioWork training spaces. The Laboratory Manager supports faculty, students, and workforce partners through lab setup, equipment maintenance, inventory management, and safety enforcement. The role also assists in onboarding instructors to lab operations and contributes to future lab expansion and equipment integration.

Tracks and manages lab inventory; prepares procurement requests in coordination with division administrative staff
Onboards new instructors by training them on lab safety, equipment use, and operational procedures
Supports the design and implementation of future lab expansions and equipment commissioning
Maintains 5S principles for lab organization, cleanliness, and efficiency
Supervises student lab assistants as assigned
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of biotechnology laboratory practices, instrumentation, and safety standards
Ability to manage lab compliance, hazardous material procedures, and safety training
Skilled in lab material prep, equipment calibration, and vendor coordination
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
Organized and detail-oriented with commitment to maintaining 5S lab standards
Proficient in using lab inventory systems and procurement tools
Flexible and capable of working across multiple campus locations
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree, related technical degree, or equivalent industry certification in biotechnology, biology, chemistry, or a life sciences discipline
Three years of relevant lab experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, academic, or industrial settings
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biotechnology or a related life sciences field
Experience in instructional or workforce training labs
Familiarity with BSL-1 / 2, GMP, or cleanroom operations
Experience onboarding or mentoring lab personnel or faculty
Previous involvement in lab build-outs or facility upgrades
OSHA 10 or 30 certification or equivalent safety training
