Working as a member of a highly collaborative team the Director of Alumni Career Services for the Alan D. Marks Center for Career Services and Entrepreneurship is responsible for developing administering and leading a portfolio of programs that support professional development community building and career success for Juilliards alumni community in a rapidly changing arts world. A person who will be successful in this position should have experience in the performing arts and event curation be an effective public speaker and presenter and be adept at designing programming that supports a broad array of professional development outcomes in the arts.

About the Alan D. Marks Center for Career Services and Entrepreneurship : Established in 2014 the Marks Center administers several programs that connect students and alumni to professional opportunities and resources. Current programming includes grant programs for students ($150k awarded annually) an online Career Portal a gigging service called Hire Juilliard Performers program an annual Entrepreneurship Symposium curricular and co-curricular offerings (weekly during the academic year) and one-on-one career advising (900 appointments annually). The Marks Center also works closely with the Office of Community Engagement which administers teaching and performance Fellowships and public-facing educational events serving 10000 New Yorkers annually. The goal of all of these programs is to support Juilliard college students and alumni become communicative socially responsible artists; to learn to serve the cultural needs of their communities; and to develop agency in their careers.

This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Community Engagement and Career Services and collaborates with the Director of Career Services Director of Community Engagement and Director of Hire Juilliard Performers. The role is supported by the Operations Manager for Community Engagement and Career Services the Career Services Administrative Apprentice and the Community Engagement Administrative Apprentice. The position frequently collaborates across the institution with the leadership of the Music Dance and Drama Divisions; the Development Office and its Office of Alumni Relations; the offices of EDIB and Non-discrimination / Title IX; and the Student Development team. Business hours for the office are Monday-Friday 9 : 00am-5 : 00pm and this role may require evening or weekend work as well as occasional travel for alumni events. Hybrid schedules are available.

The salary for this role is $ per year.

Role Responsibilities :

  • Work closely with the Assistant Dean and Directors in the Office of Community Engagement and Career Services to identify and respond to emerging trends and innovations in the career development and entrepreneurship field(s) relevant to performing artists global citizenry philanthropy and social responsibility
  • Advance the offices integrated philosophy of community engagement as career development by aligning Alumni Career Services programming with the initiatives and programs led by other Directors in the Office of Community Engagement and Career Services
  • Coordinate with departments across the institution that maintain touchpoints with Juilliard alumni to ensure consistent communication record keeping programming and surveys (e.g. Development Office of Alumni Relations Office of the President Marketing and Communications artistic departments : Jazz Studies Historical Performance Vocal Arts Chamber Music Orchestral Studies Dance Drama Creative Enterprise)
  • Administer Juilliard alumni grant programs ($60-100k annually) including program implementation; application review and selection of grantees; record keeping grantee reporting and program assessment
  • Develop curate and present year-round monthly professional development programming both in-person and via Zoom that supports a wide range of professional outcomes within and beyond the performing arts field and is responsive to and anticipate needs of Juilliard alumni from all divisions including industry trends in career readiness and career changes community-based and socially responsible art making and developing agency in ones career
  • Curate the annual Entrepreneurship Symposium by developing thematic programming and application guidelines selecting and contracting presenters and coaching presenters
  • Serve as a career advisor to college division students and alumni from all divisions
  • Manage and mentor office staff temp staff apprentices and work-study students
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelors degree
  • Direct experience in the performing arts (music dance and / or drama) performing arts higher education arts administration and / or arts management
  • Highly conversant in issues around careers in the performing arts including awareness of community building job opportunities requirements and lifestyles in the performing arts industry
  • Strong interpersonal communication and managerial skills and the ability to speak and write effectively to a broad spectrum of individuals and groups from students to donors
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple simultaneous events and programs
  • Understanding the mission of the Juilliard School and the Schools commitment to equity diversity inclusion and belonging
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Outlook
  • Preferred Background :

  • 5 years of administrative experience in career services arts business grant management or alumni relations at a college university or performing arts institution
  • Advanced degree and experience in a performing arts discipline higher education administration music business arts administration and / or career counseling
  • Familiarity with workflow and CRM platforms such asAirtable GradLeaders
