Provides direct wound and ostomy care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Offers patient and family teaching and instruction for wound and ostomy management, both pre and post-operatively. Assists the healthcare team in evaluating skin and wound products and equipment. Provides educational programs, in-services, and bedside teaching for nursing staff. Stays up-to-date with skin care practices and shares advancements in wound and skin care assessments, evaluations, treatments, and prevention measures. Assesses all patients with a pressure injury staged at three or above. Cares for all patients who have developed a hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) and meets reporting requirements. Assesses overall hospital needs and practices to eliminate HAPIs. Demonstrates initiative and strong interpersonal skills. Exhibits knowledge of infection control and patient safety protocols. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Exemplifies strong job knowledge, patient counseling, and business acumen. Maintains trust and accountability in professional relationships. Demonstrates the ability to handle technology and equipment relevant to wound and ostomy care.
