Public Alliance – Field Technician

Status : Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Pay : $28-30 per hour, depending on experience
Position Overview
The Field Technician is responsible for the maintenance and oversight of district-owned property, including landscaping, irrigation systems, open space, and infrastructure. The position combines physical field work (~50%) with administrative and coordination tasks (~50%), such as vendor scheduling, reporting, and resident support. This role reports to and supports the Community Facilities and Grounds Manager.
Key Responsibilities
A. Field Operations & Maintenance
- Perform general maintenance and repairs on landscaping, irrigation systems, and district facilities.
- Conduct grounds work including mowing, blowing, trimming, cobble reset, and manual weed control.
- Patrol common areas (parks, pool, open space) for litter, graffiti, safety issues, or needed repairs.
- Complete minor facility repairs (e.g., painting, fencing, carpentry).
- Conduct graffiti removal and assist with preventative maintenance projects.
- Maintain work vehicles, tools, and workspace.
B. Open Space Coordination
Collaborate with open space consultants on native grass and weed mitigation strategies, including conducting site walks in open space tracts.Monitor vendor performance and assist in updating service maps and maintenance schedules.Coordinate timing and locations for mowing, weed spraying, and tree replacements with vendors and the Community Facilities and Grounds Manager.Update and maintain tree inventory in the district’s GIS system (Tree Plotter), including visual inspection and condition logging.Ensure timely and accurate communication with vendors and internal staff on service needs and proposals.C. Administrative & Communication Duties
Support the Community Facilities and Grounds Manager with email responses to landscaping-related resident inquiries.Draft community updates related to field activities (e.g., weed spraying, mowing, tree planting, fence staining, amenity closures) for the newsletter team.Attend Common Area Committee and Board meetings as needed.Assist in preparing reports and regular email updates; help maintain current information on the district’s website regarding native grass, trees, and weed control.Keep accurate records of services, proposals, maintenance maps, and project schedules.Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.Minimum 2 years of experience in property maintenance, landscaping, or irrigation.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; GIS experience is a plus.Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.Customer service-oriented; able to work both independently and collaboratively.Professional, adaptable, and reliable work ethic.Special Requirements
Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and a clean driving record.Reliable transportation to and from district work sites.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions.Willingness to work occasional weekends or respond to emergency needs as required.Schedule
Monday–Friday, 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PMHybrid role including both outdoor fieldwork and office / desk-based responsibilitiesOccasional after-hours or weekend availability may be required based on district needs
