This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES

1. CORRECTIVE AND RESTORATIVE MEASURES. Performs a full range of professional dental tasks including treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative or preventive measures such as single and multiple teeth extractions, restoration of simple and compound cavities with standard and prescribed material, taking mouth impressions for crowns, jackets, dentures and bridges and fitting and inserting the finished appliances. Ensures correct patient identification through the use of at least two unique patient identifiers and perform site verification, as required. Enters workload production data into CDA reporting system.

2. PATIENT MANAGEMENT AND PREVENTATIVE MEASURES. Applies exceptional skill in handling patients with difficult behavioral and management problems. When necessary,

consults with and refers patients to other appropriate specialists. Performs various preventive measures, using professional knowledge of dentistry; knowledge and skill to diagnose and treat cases; thorough understanding and knowledge of the relationships and applications of the basic sciences. Conducts extensive prophylaxis treatment. Performs deep scaling and root planning. Conducts group oral health counseling, tobacco cessation counseling, and diet counseling. Prescribes drugs as required.

3. PROGRAM SUPPORT. Ensures adherence to corporate management policies and procedures. Responsible for the timely submission and accuracy of performance data, dental records, consultation requests and other dental records in approved information management system. Performs various duties mentoring and training less experienced general dentists and / or dental ancillaries.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement for Dentist (General Practice) :

Education : Applicants must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure : Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below :

Experience and / or Education Required :

A. Applicants must have completed a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.

OR

B. Applicants must have two years of professional dentistry experience and / or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-11).

OR

C. Applicants must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science AND professional dentistry experience and / or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-11). When combining residency program and professional dentistry experience and / or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than two years.

Note for Qualifying Experience : Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements / models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

Medical Requirement : Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.

Education
