Universal Academy Special Education Teacher – South Campus
Under the direction of the Principal and Director of Special Education, the Licensed Special Education Teacher will develop and provide specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Special Education teacher duties and responsibilities
- Assessing children’s skills and learning requirements
- Develop teaching plans according to students’ learning needs.
- Search for activities and resources that can be easily adapted to each child’s educational requirements.
- Collaborate with school speech, occupational therapists, psychologists, and parents to help children develop and socialize.
- Collaborate with parents and school staff to track students’ progress

- Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
- Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include : present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals
- Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
- Serve as contact for the parent.
- Participate in special education evaluations and reevaluations.
- Provide direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
- Collaborate and consult with educational professionals and community service providers (i.e., social services, public health, medical providers etc.) Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptions, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Complete student progress reports online
- Attend quarterly academic data meetings to discuss students’ academic data
- Talk to parents about their children’s progress
- Monitors hallways, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff
- Special Education teacher will be thoroughly committed to Universal Academy’s mission.
- All candidates must enjoy working with students, have a positive attitude, and serve as a role model for our students.
- State teaching license required.
- Previous teaching experience in SpED preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse staff, parents, and community members
- Skills / Personal Attributes
- Thorough understanding of pedagogy and the best practices of education.
- Ability to use technology i.e. smart boards, knowledge of Microsoft office
- Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
