Summary :

The Colorado Hometown Weekly is looking for an experienced journalist to serve as the East Boulder County beat reporter. This role involves covering municipal governments and general news in Lafayette, Louisville, and Erie, along with all matters of community interest. We're seeking a seasoned storyteller with a strong grasp of AP style who can quickly interpret government proceedings and translate them into clear, engaging news for both online and print audiences.

Must live in the Boulder County area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)

What you will do :

Cover municipal governments and general news in Lafayette, Louisville, and Erie, as well as all matters of community interest
Cultivate a strong audience both online and within the community
Develop a social media presence to become the go-to source for news in Lafayette, Louisville, and Erie
Write news in both daily and enterprise story formats
Quickly grasp the meaning of government jargon and the importance of council decisions or discussions on the dais
Turn around accurate, easy-to-understand news articles with the public's interest in mind
Utilize search-engine optimization (SEO) to enhance content reach
Cultivate fresh ideas for the Hometown Weekly and its sister newspapers
Work well under deadline pressure
Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
Be flexible to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis, as well as odd hours if necessary or if news requires (including evening council meetings)

What you will bring :

A minimum of one year of experience as a news reporter

Mastery of AP style

A degree in journalism, communication, or equivalent experience

Relevant experience in news reporting and writing, including using social media and creating enterprising content

Strong storytelling abilities

Proficiency in social media and search-engine optimization (SEO)

An understanding of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile, and print

Readiness to hit the ground running and contribute positively to a team environment

Benefits and Compensation :

The hourly wage is $15.00 - $18.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
