What You'll Do : A Day in the Life As a Truck Driver (Under 10,001 lbs), you will operate a vehicle that transports cargo to and from specified destinations. You will prepare, receive, and provide appropriate documentation for the delivery or pick up of goods to ensure timely service. You will load, secure, verify, and unload cargo. You will maintain radio or telephone contact with dispatchers to receive instructions for scheduled delivery or pick up. You may be responsible for vehicle inspection and maintenance. Responsibilities :Drive vehicles with gross vehicle weight rating of less than 10,001 lbs., in order to transport materials to and from specified destinationsInspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights and brakes in order to ensure that vehicles are in proper working conditionLoad and unload trucks, vans or automobilesObey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation proceduresRead maps and follow written and verbal geographic directionsVerify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papersMaintain records such as vehicle logs, records of cargo, or billing statements in accordance with regulationsPerform emergency repairs such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, and spark plugsPresent bills and receipts and collect payments for goods delivered or loadedReport any mechanical problems encountered with vehiclesReport delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to bases or other vehicles, using phones or mobile two-way radiosTurn in receipts and money received from deliveriesDrive trucks equipped with public address systems through city streets in order to broadcast announcements for advertising or publicity purposesUse and maintain the tools and equipment found on commercial vehicles such as weighing and measuring devicesPerform other duties as required Qualifications :Truck Driver License required; High School Degree or Equivalent preferred2 years required of truck driving experienceMust be 18 years of age or olderSatisfactory driving recordAbility to lift up to 50lbsAbility to obtain forklift certificationAble to work in a team environmentDetail orientedCustomer service skills and the ability to communicate professionallyForklift certification preferred Working Environment : Driver - Work is generally performed in moving vehicle. Driving required for an extended period of time with frequent stops and starts. Can be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
