Position Summary

As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a crucial role in planning, developing, and delivering Child Life programming that addresses the psychological, emotional, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule, and supervise special events in inpatient pediatric areas.
• Collaborate with marketing and public affairs for multimedia activities and donor engagement.
• Develop strategies to alleviate fear and anxiety associated with the healthcare experience.
• Prepare patients and families for procedures and the healthcare environment through therapeutic play.
• Assess each child's developmental stage, coping ability, temperament, and emotional state.
• Identify and implement coping strategies for families dealing with hospitalization, illness, and loss.
• Provide tailored services to meet the unique needs of each child.
• Consult with other healthcare professionals on developmental and behavioral issues affecting patient care.
• Maintain accurate records of Child Life services provided.
• Manage the budget and resources specific to the Child Life department's goals.
• Offer Child Life consultations to children visiting patients to support their emotional needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Demands

This role requires the ability to lift and carry 40-50 lbs, frequent standing and walking, and the capability to perform various physical activities including kneeling and bending. Staff may need to transport patients, potentially walking 8-10 miles during a shift.
