Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will play a crucial role in delivering patient and family-centered care. You will demonstrate your clinical competency by employing evidence-based practices throughout the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. Your expertise in safety protocols, cost containment, and quality improvement will be key in prioritizing patient care while adhering to all compliance and organizational policies, including infection control and patient confidentiality.
Unit Description
Our General Surgery unit specializes in the comprehensive care of patients dealing with various gastrointestinal conditions, including colon cancer, diverticulitis, and gallbladder issues, among others. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including specialists from Surgical Oncology and Integrated Medicine, and work closely with departments like respiratory care, nutrition, and social services. Essential Functions

Collect and analyze data to conduct thorough nursing assessments based on established standards and protocols. Recognize changes in patient status and prioritize care accordingly.
Collaborate with patients, families, providers, and the healthcare team to develop individualized care plans tailored to patient needs.
Update care plans as patient conditions change, ensuring clear communication with the healthcare team.
Establish measurable goals for patient outcomes, ensuring they are validated with patients and families.
Respect the cultural, spiritual, and belief systems of patients and families in your care planning.
Coordinate discharge planning to ensure continuity of care and a smooth transition post-discharge.
Provide direct, compassionate care as outlined in established nursing plans.
Delegate tasks appropriately within the nursing team and ensure all assignments are completed effectively.
Continuously monitor the quality of care provided and maintain a safe environment for all patients.
Utilize performance indicators to assess and improve the quality of nursing care.
Document patient progress and collaborate with peers during hand-offs for seamless care continuity.
Identify and address patient and family learning needs, tailoring education to multiple learning styles and cultural contexts.
Advocate for patients, coordinating care with all healthcare team members.
Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain licensure and enhance nursing practice.
Complete all assigned responsibilities and contribute to unit performance improvement initiatives.
Supervisory / Management Responsibility
This role does not involve management duties and will report to a supervisor or manager.
Minimum Requirements
Education : Associate degree in Nursing; Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.
Experience : Minimum of one year as a registered nurse.
In Lieu Of
Successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program or an equivalent residency can substitute for experience.
For internal candidates, one year of LPN experience in the same service line may be accepted in lieu of RN experience.
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Current RN compact / multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or a license to practice as an RN in the state of employment.
