Summary :
The Registered Nurse in the Mother Baby Care unit is a skilled professional who practices independently and manages a variety of complex care situations. This role involves providing both routine and intricate care, establishing long-term goals, and continually enhancing the ability to navigate the challenges of clinical nursing. This nurse effectively delegates tasks to supporting care providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities :
- Meets expectations for the OneCHRISTUS Competencies : Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Delivers nursing care in alignment with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, utilizing a comprehensive nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
- Addresses the psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families based on their unique circumstances.
- Administers medications and treatments per established protocols, monitoring for side effects and efficacy.
- Records patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Assesses educational needs and provides effective teaching to patients, families, and caregivers, while identifying pertinent issues and resources.
Job Requirements : Education / Skills :
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.Experience :
Preferred : 1 year of experience in a related nursing specialty.Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications :
BLS certification is required.Must hold a valid RN License in the state of employment or compact.Position Requirements :

All newly hired experienced RNs are required to attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.New hires will be precepted by a trained staff member, with onboarding confirmed through competency validations specific to Perinatal Services.Must complete all annual competency verifications.Experience :
Having a background in a Perinatal Setting or completing a Perinatal RN Residency is preferred.Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications :
Current STABLE (Post-resuscitation / Pre-transport Stabilization Care of Sick Infants) certification required, available through Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor courses.Current NRP certification is required.ACLS certification is preferred.In accordance with CHRISTUS Health License, Certification, and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates must obtain required certifications within the designated time frame.
Credential Grace Periods :
Any Candidate with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years is considered an Experienced Associate.Any Candidate who does not meet this experience requirement is classified as an Experienced Associate New to the Specialty.Credential Grace Periods for Experienced Associates :
Basic Life Support (BLS) : No grace period. AHA or Red Cross accepted at time of hire.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) : Within 30 days of hire.Pediatric Life Support (PALS) : Within 30 days of hire.Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) : Within 60 days of hire.Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) : Within 60 days of hire.Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) : Within 30 days of hire.AWHONN INTERMEDIATE FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) : Within 30 days of hire.STABLE (Neonatal Education) : Within 30 days of hire.Work Schedule : 7AM - 7PM
