Usher Temp (Federal Work Study)

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements :

• Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
• Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
• Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
• Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.
• A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
• Federal Work Study student may apply.
• In good disciplinary standing.
• Must be located in the U.S.

Ushers are the most visible staff members at all Berklee performance venues. Venues include Berklee Performance Center, David Friend Recital Hall, Duke Ellington Caf, Conservatory Mainstage, Seully Hall and Zack Box. Ushers will take tickets as visitors enter the building for a performance and assist in seating patrons. During the show, they ensure comfort, enjoyment, and provide safety for the audience. At the end of a performance, ushers guide visitors out and assist in the closing of the building. Additionally, ushers are responsible for preparing and closing the performance venues, enforcing venue policy, and assisting in the event of an Emergency.

This job requires federal work-study eligibility and U.S. domestic status.

Duties & Responsibilities

Skills and Qualifications :

Usher Temps (temporary status) - Ushers on temporary ("temp") status are scheduled as needed when the event schedule requires more staffing than the regular full-time team can provide. Temporary ushers pick up shifts of their choice as they become available and are not scheduled consistently with the regular team. Temps will be notified of available shifts by watching notifications in SLACK "available shifts channel" (message system used by all ushers) or may also come by email or When to Work messaging. Usher Temps who work regularly will be assigned a black dress or polo uniform shirt to keep in their possession. New Usher temps or those who work less frequently will be assigned a shirt at the start of their shift by a Senior Usher and return their shirt to the dirty laundry at the end of the evening.
