Director Ocean Freight Forwarding – Yusen Logistics
Position Summary : Lead the global Ocean Freight Forwarding function, executing ocean freight product and trade lane / network strategy, procurement, standards and guidelines, and supporting sales, operations and business growth in the Americas.
Salary Range : $122,196–$205,357
Responsibilities
Trade Lane / Network Management & Procurement (FCL & LCL)
- Execute VOC / NVOCC Carrier Policy / Strategy, monitor adherence to Carrier Policy.
- Procure best possible rates in line with guidelines.
- Maintain contacts with carriers and vendors at country level.
- Report meetings and agreements with carriers to the Head of Ocean Freight.
- Ensure volume agreements and capacity agreements for FCL are maintained.
- Serve as interface between Global Ocean Freight and Country Management to steer trade lane concepts.
- Exchange regularly with Global Ocean Freight on carrier policy and corrective actions.
- Monitor inbound / outbound volume development versus targets.
- Support implementation of EDI interfaces and ocean freight IT applications.
- Prepare and manage product information for LCL modules.
- Track procurement execution against plan and initiate corrective actions.
- Provide pricing analysis input to Corporate Trade Lane & Network Management.
- Create and maintain buying rate visibility.
Support of Sales Functions
Execute sales strategy with Marketing & Sales to meet growth targets.Support marketing and sales in target list creation and pricing issues.Manage FCL Investment Policy (PAO Incentive System).Provide bid support to Regional Tender Management on rates and network constraints.Coordinate operational interventions as directed by Global Head of Systems and Processes.Ocean Freight Operational Delivery
Manage standards and governance in line with global guidelines.Provide feedback on procedures and guide improvements.Support development of process guidelines and templates.Monitor performance of sub-contractors, productivity, service quality, data, and incident management.Evaluate and monitor operational risks with contingency planning.Implement EDI interfaces and LCL applications.Monitor LCL route network grid compliance.Monitor payload utilization in existing CCS services.Ensure compliance with government rules and reporting of volumes.Define, evaluate, and monitor booking staff performance.Drive continuous improvement of BU operations.Escalate quality and performance issues to Global Ocean Freight when needed.Knowledge & Expertise
Advanced knowledge of ocean freight industry, trends, and opportunities.Yusen strategy and products.Market dynamics, competitors, suppliers, and local regulations.Procurement and capacity management for ocean freight, including service contracts.Business administration and supplier management.Knowledge of NVOCC operations and applicable rules.Familiarity with FMC rules and regulations.Qualifications
5-10 years of experience in a forwarding or carrier role.Minimum 5 years of experience in people management and leadership (recruitment, training, coaching, performance management).Work experience in a global forwarding or logistics company.Willing and able to travel approximately 30% of the time both domestic and international.Skills & Competencies
