Job Duties
- Conducts activity / recreation groups and individual interventions to Long Term Care residents on inpatient units as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Provides recreational activities determined by Director / Assistant Director to be pertinent to resident population. Makes recommendations to include on monthly activities calendar.
- Leads programs utilizing activity zones or parallel programming concepts to meet the needs of all residents in the assigned area.
- Provides appropriate individual resident interventions in group activities and in unit milieu.
- Responsible for activity area (i.e., unit day room, cafeteria, auditorium) set-up including moving tables, chairs, and other furniture / equipment to create the optimal environment for recreation programs as determined by department Director / Assistant Director.
- Documents resident attendance in programs in established attendance records.
- Assists with coordination of community trips for residents.
- Assists with transporting residents to and from scheduled activities.
- Assists in printing large wall calendars and hanging monthly calendars in designated areas.
- Resident care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of resident growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of those served.
- Responsible for creating a homelike environment and decorating for seasonal and holiday observances.
- May assist residents during mealtime.
- Enhances professional growth by attending in-services and educational programs.
- Assists in preparing for special events (e.g., parties, trips).
- Identifies problems, contributes to department problem-solving process relative to patient and care.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings and maintains communications with all staff.
Education
High School Diploma required
American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR / AED certification required.
Skills
One year experience in a long term care setting preferred. Practical skill set in crafts, recreation / sports. Good interpersonal skills. Good oral and written communication skills. Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position. Second language useful.
Salary commensurate with experience within posted range
$16.95 / Hour

Required Education
High School or better in Diploma / GED.
Required Experience
Practical skill set in crafts, recreation / sports.
Preferred Experience
1 year : Experience in a long term care setting preferred.
