Founding Board Member - Volunteer
Organization : Hudson Ranch Conservation
Location : Mountain Area Communities (Kern County, CA) / Remote as needed
Time Commitment : Approx. 5-8 hours / month, with periodic special event involvement
Term : 2 years (renewable by mutual agreement)
About Hudson Ranch Conservation
Hudson Ranch Conservation is a newly established nonprofit rooted in the spirit of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Our mission is to protect and preserve the historical, ecological, and environmental characteristics of public lands while inspiring environmental stewardship-especially among youth in underserved communities. We’re initiating three cornerstone programs : Hudson Now, Hudson Trails, and Hudson Rangers, each designed to foster education, outdoor skills, and hands-on environmental leadership.
Description of Role
As aFounding Board Member, you’ll join us at a pivotal moment to shape Hudson Ranch Conservation’s strategic path and governance. You'll influence programmatic design, fundraising, and community engagement while helping build a legacy of conservation education and stewardship in the region.
Primary Responsibilities
Governance & Strategic Planning
Help define our vision, mission, and values; establish bylaws and strategic priorities.
Program Oversight & Development
Guide and refine programs like Hudson Now, Hudson Trails, and Hudson Rangers for impact and sustainability.
Fundraising & Resource Mobilization
Support grant writing, donor cultivation, partnership-building, and sponsorship opportunities.
Advocacy & Community Outreach
Act as an ambassador-connect with schools, environmental groups, and regional stakeholders to raise awareness and build partnerships.
Organizational Infrastructure
Assist in establishing operational systems, financial practices, evaluation frameworks, and compliance with nonprofit regulations.
Secondary Responsibilities
Participate in monthly board meetings (virtual or in-person) and occasional special event planning.
Mentor and support program volunteers and staff.
Promote Hudson Ranch Conservation across your professional and personal networks.
Skills & Qualifications Needed
Passionate about environmental conservation, youth development, or outdoor education.
Prior board, governance, or nonprofit leadership experience strongly preferred.
Experience in fundraising, strategic planning, or organizational development.
Excellent communication and networking abilities.
Collaborative, visionary, and committed to helping nurture a grassroots nonprofit.
