Summary of position :

Under the direction of the assigned supervisor the Corrections Officer 2 (Lateral) performs more complex detention duties based on increased experience in a detention facility. Incumbents perform booking searching releasing transportation supervision and security work for the Sheriffs Office Jail. Employees are expected to handle a variety of potentially volatile and dangerous situations in a calm and competent manner. Employees in this classification are responsible for the operation of the Sheriffs Office Jail on a 24 hour 7 day a week basis. Work is reviewed by the Corrections Sergeant through observation and evaluation of demonstrated ability to handle a variety of work situations

Kitsap County Sheriffs Office values the wellness of our Corrections staff. We offer a work schedule that consists of 10 hr. 40 minute shifts which consists of workweeks that are 5 days on / 4 days off two weeks in a row and then 5 days on / 5 days off the third week.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); AND
• Completion of Washington State Criminal Justice Corrections Academy or completed the Department of Corrections CORE program from 1 / 2004 7 / 2021 or have an equivalent certification that is recognized by CJTC; AND
• Successful completion of the agencys corrections FTO / training programs.
• Successfully complete WSCJTC Equivalency Academy within one year of hire.
