The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic performs advanced journey level work in the maintenance and repair of water and wastewater process equipment, lift stations, and well site equipment for the City of Glendale.
This position will be open until filled; applicants will be reviewed as they are received.
Salary : This position is :
- FLSA non-exempt, and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week
- This position is a Grade 319 with an hourly salary between $31.8574 - $47.7861
In addition to a generous salary, this position offers a $2,000
Hiring Bonus!Hiring Bonus to be paid as follows : $1,000 after 30 days of employment, and $1,000 after 6 months of employment. You must be an active employee at the time the hiring bonus is scheduled to be paid to receive the bonus. Current regular status City of Glendale employees are not eligible for hiring bonuses. Essential Functions
Acts as a mechanic at a water treatment plant, lift station or well site.Performs troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of all types of valves, pumps, and equipment including electric and hydraulic valves, blowers and fans.Installs new or replacement equipment including leveling, adjusting, alignment and wiring.Schedules and performs preventative maintenance such as greasing, oil changes, re-packing or replacing bearings or seals, and chain or gear adjustments.Operates various equipment related to mechanical maintenance such as presses, welders, lathes, milling equipment, grinders, drills, cutting torches and hand and power tools.Operates a boom truck to install or remove plant equipment.Fabricates and welds plant upgrades such as stairs, railings, tank installation, plumbing and piping.May design or redesign plant improvements including process control, electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment.Purchases and installs new equipment or components to upgrade, modify, or improve existing equipment.May train and provide guidance to Water Services System Technicians; assists in implementing comprehensive training programs for new technicians.Researches and orders materials, maintenance supplies, and new equipment from outside vendors; maintains parts inventory and equipment information.Performs other basic building maintenance such as painting, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.Operates city vehicles.Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications / Special Requirements / Success Factors
Minimum Qualifications :
One year of technical training in mechanical or plant maintenance and three years of experience in the maintenance of processing facilities.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.

A valid Arizona driver's license.Must obtain an ADEQ Grade 1 Water or Wastewater System Operator certification within twelve (12) months of hire.This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required. Bending, crawling, climbing, and heavy lifting of equipment is frequently required. Operate heavy equipment as required. Move heavy objects over 50 lbs., work at heights greater than 10 feet. Enters, exits, and operates city vehicles.
Working Conditions : Some exposure to hazardous materials such as chlorine gas, caustic soda, high voltage, and bacteriological hazards. Moving mechanical parts and equipment may present safety hazards.
