JOB OBJECTIVE :
The cook prepares food for the residents / tenants, ensuring that is fresh, nutritious and delicious. Keeping in mind the highest sanitary standards are maintained during food preparation and is served at the proper temperatures and appropriate times. Always being mindful of residents / tenant’s special requests and needs.
REQUIRED SKILLS :
1. Able to read, write and understand the English language.
2. Able to follow instructions and communicate effectively in a respectful manner with others, this includes residents / tenants, family members, visitors and staff.
3. Must be able to operate all equipment in the dietary area and maintain a high degree of cleanliness.
4. Must be Safe Serve Certified or willing to go through the training.
5. Positive and Good Customer Service attitude.
6. Desire to work with elderly and people with disabilities.
7. The ability to supervise other employees.
8. Prefer experience as a cook at another nursing home or restaurant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
1. Prepare and serve food.
2. Use sanitary procedures to keep residents / tenants safe and healthy.
3. Keep work area clean, clutter free, and organized.
4. Keep inventory of supplies and stock appropriately.
5. Work as a team with dietary staff and other departments assuring the residents / tenants needs and requests are met, giving them an enjoyable dining experience.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Using your skills to present attractive, delicious, and varied food for the residents / tenants. Including finding new food and dining ideas.
2. Responsible for preparing the day’s menu, as they appear in the cycle menu.
3. Proper labeling, rotation, and three-day rule of food storage.
4. Work safely and adhere to all OSHA regulations. Reporting any hazards.
5. Temperature checks and recording of food and equipment.
6. List food and equipment items needed for ordering.
7. Clean food stations, equipment and appliances maintain the highest degree of cleanliness.
8. Follow recipe guidelines.
9. May be required to work at other campus, as needed, to assure residents / tenants needs are met. 10. All other duties assigned to assure the dining experienced by residents / tenants is pleasurable, safe and clean.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Physical demands of the job include walking long distances, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, and lifting. Also, grasping and carrying items. Long periods of standing in one place. May be required to lift objects in the range of 30-50 lbs. at times. All these requirements must be done in a safe manner.
