Job description

Tax Analyst

The Tax Analyst position is primarily responsible for ensuring compliance with business, withholding, and individual tax accounts. The person in this role will assist with the operations of the Income Tax Division including the auditing of tax returns, maintenance of tax records, and monitoring compliance issues. This role also interacts directly with the public and requires excellent customer service skills.

Examples Of Duties

  • Review and process tax returns to ensure compliance with all applicable provisions of the Fairfield Codified Ordinance and Ohio Revised Code.
  • Investigate, identify, resolve and / or initiate collection proceedings of delinquent income tax accounts.
  • Assist taxpayers via phone, counter, and email by providing a proper level of customer service.
  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly reports, tax refund listings, and other financial information.
  • Review payments for accuracy.
  • Assist in the training of clerks and other office staff.
  • Perform special tax projects and analysis as assigned.
  • Participate in meetings, seminars, etc., as appropriate.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • Three years' experience working in finance, accounting, or other related field is preferable but not required.
  • Experience or general knowledge of municipal (Ohio) and State tax rules and regulations would be helpful, however, training will be provided.
  • Associate's Degree (or higher) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • Must possess the essential judgment to exercise broad discretion.
  • Knowledge of computers and proficiency with computer software, such as Outlook, Word and Excel; strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate professionalism, patience, and courtesy.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Supplemental Information

    Generally low physical effort required to sit, stand at files, bend, stoop, lift and walk. Maximum unassisted lift is 25 lbs.; average lift is 10 lbs. Requires ability to use keyboard, monitor, calculator and other office equipment. Requires ability to communicate verbally in person and via telephone; may be subject to verbal aggression from irate citizens / taxpayers at times.
