Job description

Department Summary

The Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) is an academic preparation program established in 1976 by the University of California to expand postsecondary education opportunities for California's educationally disadvantaged students. UCLA EAOP works with students to help them become competitively eligible applicants for college admission, going beyond minimum eligibility. EAOP works collaboratively with families, educators, schools, communities, and various campus departments to provide pre-college students with challenging academic enrichment activities to promote and cultivate a college-going culture. EAOP is one of the state's most successful pre-collegiate student academic development programs. UCLA EAOP works with over 15,000 students in middle school and high school each year. This includes working with 81 schools in 10 school districts. Since 1991, approximately 60% of EAOP seniors meet UC eligibility each year, 82% attend a postsecondary institution upon high school graduation and 62% attend a 4-year institution, with 25% attending a UC school.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) Assistant / Associate Director, the Site Coordinator is responsible for working independently and in conjunction with program staff to implement components of UCLA EAOP (a pre-collegiate academic preparation program for economically and educationally disadvantaged students) at assigned high schools and / or middle schools in communities throughout Los Angeles, Pasadena and the San Fernando Valley. Changes in school assignment is at the discretion of the Director. The Site Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing program services to assigned students at local middle or high schools as outlined in the EAOP College Access Blueprint (CAB) and middle school service plan. Program services fall within the following five standards : Academic Enrichment, Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Family & Community Engagement, and College Knowledge. Services include but are not limited to creating individualized academic plans, providing post-secondary education guidance, supporting cohort students in completing college and financial aid applications, conducting parent workshops / presentations, presenting in multiple capacities on topics related to going to college, and coordinating Saturday Academies and other events on UCLA's campus or in the community, etc. The Site Coordinator is also responsible for the identification, coordination, verification of students eligible to apply for the EAOP cohort. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, training, supervising and evaluating the work performance of Bruin Advisers (UCLA undergraduate student workers), delegating tasks, monitoring workflow, and approving and managing students' work schedules. Site coordinators are responsible for collecting, analyzing and updating student data in the EAOP database system to inform and monitor program goals. Site coordinators will participate in grant writing, program planning, curriculum development, partnership meetings, conferences, monthly reports, and annual year-end reports. Site Coordinators are also expected to participate in the UCLA Undergraduate Application holistic review process in order to be better prepared to service students. Site Coordinators will serve as liaisons for all UCLA outreach efforts at assigned schools and are expected to cultivate relationships with partner high schools, district personnel, community-based organizations and keep EAOP Senior Staff and Director abreast of all outreach activities and programs taking place at assigned schools.

Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications

  • Demonstrated communication skills in writing as well as verbally to obtain and convey information to individuals at various organizational levels. (Required)
  • Ability to establish and work in teams and maintain cooperative professional relationships with all contacts, to include students, parents, community participants, university and school personnel. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in program planning, implementation, administration and evaluation with specially targeted students. Working knowledge of California post-secondary educational opportunities, institutions, and student affairs' services. (Required)
  • Skill in communicating effectively with people of diverse ethnic backgrounds and socio-economic and educational levels. Also, effective in communicating in individual or large group settings, as well as from. (Required)
  • Organizational and time management skills to coordinate a complex set of work schedules and outreach / college preparatory activities over a period of time. Able to handle multiple assignments concurrently and meet deadlines. (Required)
  • Thorough understanding of the social, cultural, political, and economic dynamics where EAOP's services are provided. Sensitive and empathetic in dealing with students, parents, educators, and community leaders from EAOP's service areas. (Required)
  • Organizational and time management skills to coordinate a complex set of work schedules and outreach / college preparatory activities over a period of time. (Required)
  • Skill in supervising students staff including delegating responsibility, coaching and evaluating performance. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of the organizational structure of LAUSD and other local school districts with regard to such factors as location, student population, and academic programs. (Required)
  • Knowledge of college (UC, CSU, Private, Community College and / or out of state colleges) UCLA admission process, selection and requirements. (Required)
  • Bilingual skills are a plus. Spanish language preferred. (Preferred)
  • Must be available to work evening and weekends when needed. (Required)

  • Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
  • Special Conditions for Employment

  • Background Check : Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Age Requirement : Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • TB Test : Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory TB test.
  • COVID and Flu Vaccinations : The position is subject to providing evidence of inoculation.
  • Driving Record : The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
  • CANRA : The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA . The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
  • 60% Must possess a valid CA driver's license for operation of university / personal vehicles and have ability to travel to multiple school sites in the LA Metro area including Pasadena
