Description : Job Summary

The Director of Engineering is responsible for establishing and leading world-class maintenance and engineering systems that emphasize preventative and predictive processes, ensuring optimal operational efficiency and reliability. This role drives continuous improvement and innovation, positioning the organization at the forefront of maintenance and engineering excellence.

The Director of Engineering delivers annual PPAH improvements through maintenance / reliability excellence, reducing capacity constraints, and optimizing capital investments.

The Director of Engineering oversees engineering activities across multiple plants to ensure optimal performance, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and strategic initiative development.

Requirements : Key Responsibilities

  • Capital Project Process & Oversight : Planning, budgeting, and executing capital projects to drive efficiency and growth. Creates a well-defined process to ensure ROI integrity and site-level ownership.
  • Environmental and Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Supports EHS in executing HLAC, environmental permitting, and OSHA compliance.
  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) : Implementing TPM principles to maximize equipment reliability and operational efficiency. Defines reliability excellence levels for production and supports progression to higher levels.
  • Predictive Maintenance Program Development : Designing and implementing predictive maintenance programs using modern technologies. Moves maintenance teams beyond preventative maintenance by defining next-level predictive maintenance processes.
  • Leadership and Team Development : Influences job designs and organizational structure across 6 production locations. Builds and supports appropriate training and competency verification to improve technician skills and development.
  • Creates organizational alignment and transparency with key metrics to drive accountability and actions that lead to results.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the specific ability to explain complex principles, articulate clear outcomes, influence actions without formal authority, and present compelling ideas and concepts
  • Executive-level influencing skills – able to create a compelling vision and influence organizational behavior at all levels (technician to executive)
  • Expertise in building capital plans / requests, ROI analysis, capacity analysis, Lean floor layout concepts (significant expertise in relevant software – Excel or other analytical; CAD / Visio or other design software; strong technical writing skills)
  • Expertise in TPM methodologies, predictive maintenance technologies, and modern engineering practices.
  • Ability to build and manage a robust capital planning process with clear ROI hurdles and escalating approvals.
  • Ability to identify maintenance and capital improvements that improve production efficiencies
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills, and the ability to deliver complex projects on time and budget
  • Ability to work well in teams and small groups, and to interact effectively with vendors
  • Proficiency in using engineering and maintenance management software
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial) preferred, or additional significant relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership position.
  • Proven track record in managing capital projects and implementing TPM principles.
  • Experience and expertise in writing regulatory proposals and permits, and dealing directly with regulatory authorities
  • Involves up to 50% travel (US only)
