Staff Backend Engineer - High-Scale DeFi Social Trading API

Location : Remote - NY preference but open to US remote

Compensation : $180K - $250K

We are a well-funded startup building the global trade comment network —a core protocol that solves the trading discovery problem by connecting traders across different applications. Our solution allows users to comment on their trades (the "why") and earn a percentage of the copytrades they drive. We are seeing a massive increase in market size as traditional exchanges and fintech apps adopt decentralized trading. We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer with deep experience designing and scaling REST APIs to manage data flow for millions of users.

You will be responsible for designing and scaling the API that serves tens of thousands of requests per second, summarizing millions of rows of off-chain data and terabytes of on-chain data in 500ms or less. This role requires solving core software engineering challenges, focusing heavily on performance, code maintainability, and infrastructure optimization.

Key Responsibilities :

• API Design & Scaling : Design robust backend REST APIs for usability and massive scale.
• Performance Optimization : Optimize PostgreSQL queries , trace code paths for bottlenecks, and maximize performance from AWS infrastructure to ensure sub-500ms latency.
• Code Quality : Build clean, maintainable, and well-tested backend code using best practices.
• Product Collaboration : Collaborate closely with the product team to define, prioritize, and build new features end-to-end.
• Project Focus : You will work on projects such as :
• Feed : Building rapid, algo-sorted feeds of trades from followed users.
• Discovery : Surfacing good traders to follow across diverse metrics.
• Trading Metrics : Large-scale on-chain metrics aggregation (PnL, win rate).
• Protocol : Improving rewards contracts and indexers.
• Experience : 5+ years at tech startups with millions of DAUs (Daily Active Users) .
• Core Technologies : Deep experience with modern backend technologies like Node.js, TypeScript, AWS, and Postgres .
• API Expertise : Proven experience designing and building out programmatic APIs that are robust, scalable, and developer-friendly.
