Responsibilities

• The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) provides care that requires knowledge and skills obtained from advanced formal education and clinical experience.
• The ACNP, in collaboration with the physicians and interdisciplinary team, may provide preventive, acute, specialized and primary care services to patients consistent with the nurse’s education and certification.
• Services provided by the ACNP may include, but are not limited to the following : 1) assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of identified health needs; 2) ordering and interpretation of diagnostic and / or laboratory tests; 3) formulating, documenting, and monitoring treatment plans; 4) routine wound or post-operative dressing management; 5) ordering interdisciplinary consults; and 6) ordering pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies and / or interventions.
• In addition to standard ACNP responsibilities, duties also include the day to day management and development of the nurse practitioner program at SCH-C.
