Description :
Promotes improved quality and patient safety in the operating room by ensuring the efficient flow of the Sterile Processing department.
Performs routine tasks relating to the decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
Responsible for general operating and monitoring of sterilization equipment.
Maintains records in compliance with established standards.
Demonstrates awareness and understanding of patient safety in the operating room.
Facilitates the department's preparation for regulatory assessments.
Sterilizes supplies and instruments using prescribed methods (e.g., steam, gas plasma).
Operates washer / decontaminator per departmental policy and procedure.
Understands the basic principles of all sterilization equipment used in the department.
Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate packaging methods for successful sterilization.
Follows manufacturer's recommendations for sterilization.
Assures cleanliness of decontamination, sterilization, and equipment areas.
Validates the proper functioning of all equipment using established monitors.
Ensures that sterilized supplies and instruments are correctly labeled and stored to ensure sterility.
Maintains compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines for storage areas.
Upholds all quality, infection prevention, regulatory, and Joint Commission Standards.
Demonstrates technical skills needed to establish and maintain High-Level Disinfection processes.
Utilizes features of computerized tray / instrument tracking systems, if applicable.
Applies knowledge of the dress code related to Standard Precautions and consistently wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Reports any life safety issues, environmental concerns, or process deviations to the immediate supervisor.
Develops awareness and understanding of patient safety in the operating room.
Maintains a friendly rapport with peers and internal / external customers.
Assists in the transportation of sterilized instrumentation to the operating rooms as needed.
Verifies that required instrumentation has been sterilized and is available for procedures.
Assists in removing soiled case carts or unsterilized instrumentation from the operating room.
Responds to problem calls from surgery during regular business hours.
Floating may be required to any facility within the identified float zone.
Float assignments may include duties outside of original job requirements in accordance with policy.
Education : High School Diploma or GED is required.
