Description
The Consumer and Residential Loan Underwriter is responsible for gathering and analyzing credit information on current and potential borrowers, determines the advisability of granting credit for diversified types of loans and assists loan officers in writing loan requests.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluates mortgage and consumer loan packages and provides loan approval with conditions to close or underwrite.
- Conducts comprehensive risk assessments, analyzing debt-to-income and loan-to-value ratios, credit scores, and property valuations.
- Performs in-depth analysis of credit reports, appraisals, and supporting documentation to qualify and classify loans according to company and regulatory guidelines.
- Identifies potential risk issues and fraudulent activity throughout the application process.
- Ensures all conditions are met and completed before final sign-off on mortgage documents.
- Maintains knowledge of lending requirements, internal policies and procedures, and compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze collateral as a secondary repayment source to assess the secured position of the Bank.
Education and Experience
- College degree preferred; related work experience required
- Basic computer skills and knowledge
- Excellent interpersonal skills: including use of professional and clear verbal communication and writing skills.
- Advanced planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementation skills.
