Job Description :

The Assistant / Associate Director of Orientation and Engagement position is an exciting opportunity to work closely with student leaders to create a vibrant community that welcomes and develops students throughout their first year. This position coordinates a holistic orientation, support services, and programming for first-year students, transfer students, and parents and families, and creates and implements activities in collaboration with the Student Activities Center.

On-campus housing may be available as this is a live-on optional position with optional on-call emergency response.

Specific Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate and implement first-year orientation programs, which includes partnerships with admissions to execute Knight U, Bellarmine's summer advising program, lead and implement Week of Welcome, Bellarmine's fall orientation program, and oversee Transfer Orientation.
  • Coordinate the training, selection, and evaluation of a 7-member student leadership team and 80 high-energy student Week of Welcome (WOW) leaders.
  • Support and train KnightU student leaders to welcome the newest students to campus during summer the academic orientation program.
  • Create and maintain Knights Essentials online summer modules focused on transitioning incoming first-year students to college life.
  • Develop and implement ongoing programming and support initiatives for transfer students.
  • Coordinate and implement Family Weekend, through on and off campus event planning, athletic event advertisement and marketing .
  • Manage family social media communications, including but not limited to Parent and Families Instagram and Facebook.
  • Facilitate the yearly Common Leadership Application, an annual student leader application that brings together 10-15 campus leadership roles, into one application.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate ongoing student activities and programs designed to engage and build community and sense of belonging.
  • Serve as a Student Activities Office team member, supporting campus programming and student engagement initiatives.
  • Create and distribute assessments for the Student Activities Center, including but not limited to the first-year survey, transfer student survey, parent and family survey and homecoming survey.
  • Serve on the student success task force and assist with first-year retention and success initiatives.
  • Supervise Graduate student assistant.
  • Plan and implement Senior Week activities and support collaboration and scheduling across campus events.
  • Serve on divisional and institutional committees related .
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

  • A Bachelor's degree is required and a Master's degree in Higher Education / Student Affairs, Counseling or related field is preferred.
  • Experience with orientation, campus programming, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work with diverse constituencies, knowledge of principles of student development, and a strong student-centered philosophy is preferred.
  • Ability to manage and motivate students and develop programs is essential as is a personal demeanor that inspires excellence and collaboration.
