Responsibilities
The Research Grant Business Manager is responsible for managing the business and administrative operations of the major grants (project with a budget >
5M or accumulative project budget >
5M for individual faculty / Pl) portfolio; The Business Manager will represent the faculty members' portfolio of business affairs using the above criteria; The manager will be the point of contact to ensure consistent financial and budgeting practices comply with the Institute and funding agencys financial and business guidelines; The manager will actively carry out the portfolios short- and long-range financial operation and performance planning and provide a full range of post-award services to the designed large grants and faculty members.
Monitors all financial activity to ensure that the portfolio and projects is financially sound and in compliance with all Institute financial policies; Act as the central point of contact for all financial activities within the assigned portfolios; Troubleshoot all financial-related matters to ensure successful resolution; Coordinates with the finance team to ensure accurate budget management and financial reporting; Maintains and apply detailed knowledge of the performance plan and the link between the appropriate budgets and the financial activities of the portfolio and the sub-portfolios within; Provide detailed budgetary information to support researcher appointments, travel, and purchasing; Oversees preparation and maintenance of operating budgets to forecast portfolio financial needs and to establish a working document for planning and reporting purposes; Prepare budget recon and conduct budget amendments; and maintain monthly budget meeting with the Pis .
Maintains accurate documentation of all external requests and communication with external sponsoring agencies, such as performance reports, budget amendments, no-cost extensions, etc.; Ensures accurate and timely submission of all grant reports, including narrative summaries and financial data; Stays updated on relevant grant regulations and compliance standards; Maintains comprehensive grant documentation and records for audit purposes; Conducts audits of financial activities within the Portfolio and implement corrective procedures as needed; Executes other post-award duties and special projects as assigned; Coordinates with the Office of Sponsored Research Team to ensure grant funds are utilized accurately and align with project goals; and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and six years of related experience; or master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of related experience.
Recommended Competencies
Knowledge of federal, state, and private sources for contract and grant funds; and,
This position requires successful completion of the eSPEAR Certification or ability to obtain the certification within 6 months of hire.
Pay Plan
This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.

Schedule
This position works in the office 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, with a 1-hour break for lunch.

The ideal candidate will have experience in accounting and / or grants management in a university setting. They will have strong communication and organizational skills.
A work sample will be conducted for applicants selected for an interview.
