Overview : GovCIO Media & Research is seeking candidates for a driven, self-starting senior staff writer to cover key individuals, topics and issues affecting federal health and civilian technology for distribution across a wide array of the publication’s platforms, including web, video, podcasts, live and virtual events, and social media.This is a fully remote position based in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Candidates must be located within commuting distance and available to attend weekly events and press briefings in the D.C. area as needed. Responsibilities : Moderate panels and acquire speakers for events and webinars.Develop relationships with federal technology agency leaders and schedule a variety of interviews with these leaders regularly.Maintain relationships with key media contacts in the federal IT space.Conceptualize and produce well-researched, in-depth articles, features, video interviews, podcasts and analysis on federal technology, government operations and emerging trends.Attend, cover and network at industry events and panels.Gather, analyze and report on information about federal contract opportunities or business trends, and use this information to inform editorial work.Work with editorial team to execute content strategies, including features, podcasts, podcast miniseries, newsletters, reports, events and special projects.Work across the team to execute various editorial projects — including sales, design and marketing.Assist in social media publishing.Compile and deploy newsletters. Qualifications : Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years previous reporting experience, job or internship related (or commensurate experience).Genuine curiosity around unfamiliar or technical subjects.Previous federal government reporting experience (job or internship).Comfortable interviewing subject matter experts for live and in-person panels and podcasts.Ability to synthesize complex and technical topics to a broader audience.
