Salary : $16 / hr
SUMMARY : The PT Adoption Counselor is responsible to assist the general public with services provided by the
SFAHS; such as adoptions, admitting pets, releasing strays, advising with animal related questions, etc., as well as various clerical duties. This person is also responsible for providing high levels of service to co-workers and customers. We are currently looking for an individual with availability to work Friday-Sunday. The ideal candidate will be able to work at least one weekend day most weeks, with some availability to work Saturday and Sunday some weekends depending upon business needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Customer Service
- Treat animals humanely both on and off the job; transmit these values to others.
- Greet individuals coming into the shelter.
- Assist with incoming animals, including strays, returns and surrenders.
- Assist with adoptions and animal related questions / concerns and / or direct to proper personnel.
- Release animals back to owners, and collect costs, if necessary, for fines, boarding, and vaccination costs.
- Answer and assist individuals calling the shelter.
- Perform various clerical functions; including but not limited to spay / neuter notices, incoming animal paperwork, filing, verifying vaccinations and health history on incoming animals, maintaining and updating data base in computer, producing client receipts, etc.
- Maintain lost / found book, pet care information files, adoption packets.
- Process animals for adoption.
- Sell retail products, maintaining personal goals toward quotas.
- Clean office area and restrooms; take out trash.
OTHER FUNCTIONS :
Perform other functions as directed.QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS :
Education and Work ExperienceAn appropriate certificate from a technical school, with emphasis on customer service and data entry / clerical functions, or six months to one year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Skills, Knowledge and AbilitiesMust be able to work well with all types of animals.Must be able to deal professionally and tactfully with customers and staff at all times.Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.Must be able to read and interpret documents; such as, documents and procedure manuals.Must have sound computer data entry skills.Physical Capabilities RequiredJob requires a high degree of working with animals.Physical exertion is in the medium range, requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.Job includes major amounts of handling animals, including reaching, standing, walking, talking and hearing; moderate amounts of kneeling, stooping, crouching and feeling; some pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motion.Must have a sufficient visual acuity to determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned to staff members.Environmental conditions include mostly inside work; some outside work and temperature changes involved; considerable animal noise; fumes and odors from animals and cleaning supplies; may be exposed to animals with medical issues and / or infectious diseases.Benefits :
