The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Associate Business Affairs Officer (ABAO) with the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources As senior administrative officer for the College (CABNR) and working in close collaboration with the dean and directors of the Experiment Station, Extension and Extended Studies, the Assistant Dean contributes to strategic, financial and operational planning and executive decision-making processes. The Assistant Dean is responsible for providing administrative, analytical and strategic support to the dean, associate deans, and directors to facilitate the smooth functioning of the College in the key areas of finance, staffing, facilities and infrastructure that support the education, research, and community outreach mission of the College.
The ABAO oversees the financial and administrative planning, budget development and implementation, policy formulation and organizational development, and deployment of resources, and ensures that proper operations and administrative systems are in place to foster the growth, efficiency, and financial strength of the College. The position additionally oversees information technology, collaborates in fundraising and development strategies, and manages administrative operations that support the overall administrative, academic, research, Extension, and Extended Studies goals.
The position serves as an external liaison with key agencies, and in particular USDA / NIFA and other funding agencies, to ensure College goals and administrative operations are efficient, comprehensive, and in compliance with federal, state, and university policy. The position is a functional manager and provides strategic leadership in collaboration with and on behalf of the dean and directors.
Duties to include, but not limited to :
Deep expertise in managing large, complex federal grants, including cost accounting, reporting, federal policy compliance, and drawdowns
Proven leadership in managing teams and complex business operations within academic and research environments
Extensive experience in financial management, budgeting, and fiscal analysis
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience advising senior leadership
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including data-driven decision-making
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and skilled in using technology to query, analyze, and report on complex data sets
Highly trustworthy with a strong commitment to discretion and confidentiality
Effective project management skills with the ability to drive initiatives to completion
Conflict resolution expertise and ability to foster a collaborative work environment
Strong prioritization and time management abilities to balance competing demands
Be a strategic thinker with a strong ability to align operational planning with institutional goals
Demonstrate sound judgment in decision-making and policy interpretation in alignment with University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) guidelines
Guide teams and operations through organizational change

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and six years of related professional work experience; OR Master’s Degree and four years of related professional work experience.
Related experience : Demonstrated experience in an academic or related environment to include operational oversight, strategic planning support for fiscal and grant management, HR experience, and directly supervising a team or related field
