Transportation Assistant (Hazardous)
Help Serves as an assistant performing freight shipment, transportation, and supply support functions for worldwide movements to aerial ports or the Continental United States (CONUS).
Prepares and issues Material Release Order (MRO) paperwork, processes exception data requisitions, and handles emergency requisitions with accelerated delivery requirements.
Initiates, releases, completes, verifies, and processes all documentation associated with the surface, air, and vessel shipment of hazardous freight.
Provides enroute instructions with shipment size, shape, weight, and packing requirements, arranges urgent routings outside normal channels, and selects shipment mode.
Obtains efficient transportation services at the lowest cost and recommends routing or mode changes for the most economical rates to meet delivery dates.
Arranges and expedites material release orders for emergency shipments, researches and responds to customer inquiries related to the status of shipments, processes violations and cancelations, and researches open lines and late shipments.

You will be a Mission Essential employee. This requires you to work during an emergency to ensure continuation of essential functions. You may be required to work at the designated duty location, a telework site, or an alternate location / facility.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and / or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.
Must be able to obtain and maintain required hazardous materials handling certifications.
To qualify for a Transportation Assistant (Hazardous), your resume and supporting documentation must support : A. Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off / closing date of the announcement.
Creditable specialized experience includes : Determines the most efficient economical rates and routes to final destination involving domestic inbound and export shipments. Classifies, rates, routes, and moves a wide range of commodities including hazardous material.
B. Education : As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
Physical Demands : Work is generally of a sedentary nature. Work requires handling of material that may weigh up to 25 pounds. If moving or lifting items over 25 pounds, will request assistance or utilizing lifting devices. May be required to climb ladders and work on safety pallets. During periods of work in the warehouse, work may require some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.
Work Environment : Work is usually performed in an office setting, however, visits to warehouses, secure areas, or outdoor locations may be necessary to locate and count material. Work may be performed in hazardous areas where chemicals, poisons, and / or low levels of radioactive material is stored; also, may be required to work in refrigerated areas with 42-45-degree temperatures and small freezers where the normal temperature is below 0. Employees are required to wear appropriate safety clothing and equipment as determined by safety requirements and the supervisor.
