Description
The Staff Accountant maintains audit‑ready books and records for RiseBoro housing affiliates and handles the full accounting cycle, including financial reporting, bank reconciliations, audit materials, and stakeholder reporting.
Responsibilities
- Analyze business and financial data.
- Prepare selected data analyses as directed by Assistant Controller.
- Record and reconcile escrow account activity.
- Prepare all aspects of financial statement package including journal entries, general ledger analysis and distribution of reports.
- Reconcile bank and escrow statements to general ledger.
- Record accrued expenses for month‑end close.
- Ensure timely payment of all debt, utilities, real estate taxes and insurance.
- Prepare monthly work papers to ensure audit readiness.
- Assist in the development of automated reporting and forecasting tools for more efficient use of data.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and make recommendations based on those trends.
- Assist in preparation for year‑end audits and other special assignments as needed.
- Attend relevant training sessions keeping current on LIHTC and project parameters.
- Recommend and implement continual internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions for process improvement.
- Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Competencies
Two years of relevant experience in finance; asset management experience a plus.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software; intermediate to advanced working knowledge in Microsoft Excel.Knowledge of Yardi Voyager is strongly preferred.Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.Ability to adapt to pressure, work independently, efficiently, and meet deadlines.Good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and / or Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.Strong resonance with the RiseBoro Community Partnership mission.Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree; preferably in Accounting or equivalent experienceCPA (Certified Public Accountant) a plusEqual Employment Opportunity
