Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) is comprised of three curricular phases : (1) foundations, (2) clerkships, and (3) career exploration and scholarship leading to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Reporting to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Education, the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education is responsible for all aspects of the MD curriculum. The Associate Dean serves as a member of the senior leadership team and supports all aspects of the Office of Academic Affairs and Education. The Associate Dean supports the Vice Dean in strategic planning, budget management, human resource management, compliance, facilities management, and IT management for the undergraduate medical education program. The Associate Dean is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the MD curriculum to ensure continuous quality improvement and compliance with the accreditation standards of the Liaison Committee for Medical Education. The Associate Dean supports the Vice Dean in acquiring adequate educational resources for the MD program, including faculty, staff, facilities, and community partners.This role provides leadership, strategic planning, and management of the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education while fostering continual improvement and innovation. This position supervises the Assistant Dean for Biomedical Science Education and the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education. The Associate Dean works with the Curriculum Oversight Committee, and the Medical Student Progress Committee. The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee will use the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (SOM) promotion criteria to recommend rank to the Dean of the School of Medicine. Tenure consideration may be given upon hire on a case by case basis depending on verified previous credentials, the FAPT recommendation, and School of Medicine Dean's recommendation.
