The Director of Accounting Operations & Reporting will lead teams tasked with operational accounting, project management, financial compliance and reporting duties. You’ll be responsible for ensuring organizational adherence to accounting standards and the maintenance of an effective control environment. Furthermore, you’ll oversee the execution of accounting and financial tasks including disbursements, financial representative compensation, investment accounting, as well as external and internal reporting. Effective collaboration across the organization is essential to understand the business and factors influencing operating performance. Lastly, you’ll be responsible for selecting, training, and evaluating staff to ensure an effective and efficient operation of these functions.

This position allows full-time remote work if located outside of Bloomington, IL or surrounding area.

How does the Director of Accounting Operations & Reporting make an impact?

  • Reviews and analyzes finances, ensuring compliance with regulations and adherence to Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and / ortax guidance.
  • Ensures the integrity and accuracy of financial operations, safeguarding organizational assets and developing efficient business processes.
  • Provides data-driven insights and recommendations for enterprise decision-making and the successful financial operation of the Companies.
  • Manages the implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans and activities in assigned areas. Maintains current contact information for all employees in applicable areas and communicates with non-recovery employees during a disaster.
  • Fosters a positive environment where all team members are motivated and committed to contribute their best work.
  • Creates a safe environment where team members are supported to make decisions and take action to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Takes personal responsibility for making tough decisions, meeting commitments and adapting to ensure expected results are achieved.
  • Assumes responsibility for implementing practices to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion while holding self and others accountable.

  • Proven strategic planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective delegation skills to maximize employee engagement and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrates the business and financial acumen necessary to develop and present data-based ideas and solutions in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
  • Highly developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including strong presentation skills and the ability to influence and negotiate effectively to achieve amicable outcomes and resolve conflict to meet business needs.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting within the insurance industry and its related regulatory environment.
  • Proven leadership and business judgment to make decisions in the best interest of the organization.
  • CPA designation required.
  • Experience using Workday.
  • Work may extend beyond normal business hours as business needs dictate.
  • This is an executive leadership role, which typically requires 12+ years of relevant experience or a combination of related experience, education and training, including management experience.
